Five CAB members and one staff member attended the March 2005 meeting of the UTMB Galveston AIDS Clinical Trials Unit Community Advisory Board (CAB).
· Pade brought forward that the Community Planning Group (CPG) for AIDS/HIV for Galveston had asked for the CAB’s support in conducting the AHEC Needs Assessment. This is to be accomplished by basic interviews off the island and in Brazoria and Matagorda counties. On the island the interviews will take place in the form of a focus group. The primary group of candidates is African American, heterosexual, females.
The group raised the question as to how we can support this effort by recruiting individuals. It was decided that any fliers developed by the CPG would be placed on the CAB Bulletin Board in the clinic, sent out to members and to agencies with routinely communicate with.
· It was noted that no one was available to listen in on the national CAB call. Since we routinely listen in, it was decided that missing one would not be detrimental.
· Dennis announced that the Galveston County Health District would be establishing social support groups, now that funding had been made available.
· The reminder of the meeting was spent discussing the status of the ACTU. It is apparent that it will be impossible to meet the accruals established by the AACTG. Therefore, competing for future funding is not an option for the future.
· Denise reported on her outreach efforts (Ft. Bend County Medical Center, Port Arthur Gulf Family Health Center – Administrative group and TAN representatives, Stark Diabetes Ctr. Re: Golden Triangle outreach.
· DAMP – Changes promised by UTMB’s administration have not come to fruition. The concept is still on hold.
· The TAN van will transport patients for clinical trials one day per week. This is in place now.
