The mission of the Community Advisory Board (CAB) is to integrate community involvement and input into the operations of the UTMB AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU). The ACTU at UTMB is one of 33 adult ACTUs in the United States and Puerto Rico. ACTUs are funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and together make up the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG).
The CAB provides:
· an opportunity to increase understanding of the clinical concerns regarding specific clinical studies, their development, implementation and outcomes.
· information on current and future HIV treatment trials.
· affected communities with necessary advocacy in the event of grievances.
Our goal is to provide an opportunity for researchers and communities to create a working partnership that will lead to improved knowledge of HIV disease. As research and technology evolve, we will adapt our roles to meet the changing needs of our community.Return to CAB Page
