CAB MEETING MINUTES
August
26 , 2003
Seven
CAB members, 4 staff members and 13 guests attended the August 2003 meeting of
the UTMB Galveston AIDS Clinical Trials Unit Community Advisory Board (CAB).
This
was a special meeting held at the Island Community Center, featuring a
presentation by Dwayne Haught, Manager of the Texas HIV Medication Program (THMP)
which is the government-funded AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) for the State
of Texas.
Mr. Haught provided an overview of the THMP, discussed
challenges and recent rule changes and answered questions and solicited feedback
from those in attendance. The THMP
has received funds to continue its program without having to change eligibility
guidelines for the near future (at least through 2004).
Cost containment strategies have been adopted for implementation only if
and when allocated funds would be insufficient to continue to provide current
level services throughout a year or funding cycle.
New formulary additions are FTC (Emtriva) and Atazanavir (Reyataz) along
with once a day 300 mg formulation for 3TC (Epivir).
The THMP group is also looking into the possibility of adding T-20
(Fuzeon) to its formulary on what may be a limited access basis. The THMP website at www.tdh.state.tx.us/hivstd/meds
is a good source for THMP and eligibility information.
The toll-free number for the THMP is 800-255-1090.
