Five CAB members, 2 staff members and 1 guest attended the April 2004 meeting of the UTMB Galveston AIDS Clinical Trials Unit Community Advisory Board (CAB).
During the
leadership meeting in San Diego, the PI breakout session participants
discussed ways to implement and assess the international trials effort.
DAIDS RFA for
competitive renewal may be released in September. DAIDS is conducting renewal of its vaccine and treatment
trial networks during the same time period.
It appears that
the AACTG is not focusing on inclusion of HCV mono-infection trials in the
near future. HIV/HCV
co-infection studies will continue.
Dr. Paar has
resigned as medical director of the ACCRP clinic; he will continue with his
TDCJ work. ACCRP administration
is undergoing reorganization.
A PI candidate
from Univ. of Alabama at Birmingham will be visiting in May.
It was determined that there is no problem with the ACTU making condoms available to people under 18 years at outreach events. TDH funded organizations are prohibited to distribute condoms to those under 18.
Dr. Bell is no longer able to serve as CAB Physician Liaison. Any questions regarding protocol reviews can be sent to Carrie, who will forward them to a physician for a response.
The idea of moving the brochure display in the clinic to a more visible spot was brought up.
Carrie reported that A5197 (Merck therapeutic vaccine trial) will open late May or early June.
