the April 2006 meeting of the UTMB - Galveston AIDS Clinical Trials Unit
Community Advisory Board (CAB).

UTMB has been active in the ACTG
since the late 1980’s
·
Nat’l changes over the last 5
years
·
Trend is now toward corporate
trials rather than ACTG trials
·
UTMB is currently receiving or has
some funds from ACTG but is moving in the direction of Industry Trials.
·
The CAB, apart from ACTG rules, is
not mandatory but will be maintained to provide needed community input and
publicity
·
Currently naïve trial for ACTG
·
Industrial trial with Tibotec
testing PI and No Nuke with T-20/Fuzeon
·
Fuzeon Biojector trial, which has
the benefit, additionally, of providing both the biojector and medication for
life
·
Currently seeking new chief of
·
Hep C 2 co-infection studies with
the ACTG- unfortunately, Dr Lau was recruited by Harvard and is no longer at
UTMB
·
Visitor Tromm mentioned the radio
show on KPFT hosted by Ray Hill on KPFT as a good source for disseminating
information the Prison populations in the area who might qualify fr trials.
·
Discussion of TDCJ population being
entered into trials followed.
